Paint the Shore: Art and Conservation
October 11-14, 2017


Paint the Shore is a four day plein air event and art exhibit designed to connect community, conservation, and art. Events Friday and Saturday will provide opportunities to engage with the land, the artists, and their artwork. 

Artists will paint on privately and publicly protected lands beginning on Wednesday, October 11th between Eastville and Exmore, Virginia. All paintings will be exhibited and for sale at a reception on Friday, October 13th at 6 p.m. at the Barrier Islands Center in Machipongo, Virginia. The exhibit will continue on Saturday. The public is also invited to a Saturday morning quick draw. Artists will have two hours to paint and all paintings will be for sale off the easel immediately following. Thirty-five percent of sales from artwork will support the VES Land Trust and its mission.

Mix and mingle with artists and Land Trust staff while viewing exceptional artwork and enjoying light snacks and wine. Vote for your favorite painting in our People's Choice Award.

Saturday

Quick Draw and Conservation Exhibit, Chatham Vineyards

9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Free

Come see the artists paint and connect with local conservation organizations. All artists will participate in the 2-hour quick draw with their paintings for sale immediately following. In addition, talk with representatives from local conservation organizations and agencies to discover programs available for your land and outdoor recreation opportunities nearby.

Application Fee: $35
Artists have the chance to paint on privately owned conservation easements as well as preserves open to the public located in the Eastville to Exmore region of Virginia's Eastern Shore. The exhibit and sale opens Friday evening, October 13th at 6 p.m. and runs Saturday from 12-4 p.m. Awards for Artists Choice and People's Choice will be presented on Friday evening. Artists will also participate in a quick draw on Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m.

35% of painting sales will benefit the VES Land Trust and its mission.
