For landowners, future landowners, and realtors

Conservation easements permanently restrict certain uses of the property they protect, such as development, in favor of conservation benefits including agriculture, forestry, water quality, and wildlife habitat. VES Land Trust works closely with landowners of VES Land Trust held conservation easements to steward the conservation benefits specific to their property for future generations. To accomplish their stewardship goals, landowners frequently ask VES Land Trust staff and Board about good land management, stewardship, and conservation practices. To help address these questions and provide more resources, we’ve compiled resources for landowners, future landowners, and professionals handling land transactions in the most commonly requested stewardship areas:

Changes to Property

This section covers changes in ownership, addition of structures, and other additions including pools or recreational courts. Realtors listing a conserved property for sale will also find this section helpful.

Land Management and Stewardship

This section covers land management and stewardship including farmland, forest, shoreline, wildlife habitat, and invasive species. Those actively managing the land will find professional resources, research, and articles here.

Historic and Architecture

This section highlights partners and resources for historic and architectural properties. If you have a more specific question, please contact us as we may have additional resources to suggest.

Each subsection provides links to resources and partners landowners have worked with in the past. We do not recommend any one service provider over another.

Each conservation easement is unique and tailored to the specific property and conservation values it protects. The information and resources presented here generally apply but the terms of each easement may differ and always ultimately govern the use and restrictions on the property. The VES Land Trust is here to help you with any questions or plans for your VES Land Trust conserved property.
