Picture the Shore

Picture the Shore is a photography contest and art exhibit designed to highlight the work of student, amateur, and professional photographers and to connect the public to the beauty and natural environment of the Eastern Shore through visual art.

Exhibit and Reception will be held November 8, 2024 at the Barrier Islands CEnter.

The Competition

Student, amateur, and professional photographers of all ages are invited to submit digital photos that feature the beauty and natural environment of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Student and amateur photos must be taken with a cell phone camera. Professional photographers may take photos with the camera of their choosing. Each photographer can submit one (1) photo. Entries must feature the natural environment of the Eastern Shore and should focus on landscapes, plants, recreation, waterways, and wildlife. Please read complete Entry Guidelines below before submitting.

Deadline

Student Submission Deadline: October 18, 2024

Amateur and Professional Submission Deadline: October 25, 2024

Apply

To apply, please fill out the full application using the Google Form linked below. Photographers will submit a digital file and an 11x14 printed, not matted or mounted, photo. Photos will be framed by VES Land Trust for the exhibit. Photos may be black and white or color. Photo files must be in the .jpg file format and at least 300 dpi.

Application Fee

There is a $20 non-refundable application fee for professional and amateur photographers. There is no fee for student photographers. If you are professional or amateur photographer, your application will not be complete without the application fee.

Exhibit

The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday, November 8th and runs until November 22nd. At the reception, photographers and VES Land Trust staff will be present to talk more about the photos, the artistic process, conservation, and the land. Attendees will also have a chance to vote for their favorite photo in the amateur and student categories with the People’s Choice Award. The Award for Professional Photographers will be chosen by a panel of judges.
